7/8 Families,

I hope that summer break is going well and you and your children are getting some rest and relaxation.  We are busy at the site getting prepared for the start of school for the 18-19 school year. I wanted to send out a few reminders as the end of summer is almost upon us.

Registration (8th Grade Only), August 10th @1:00pm:

We look forward to seeing all of the 8th graders on campus on August 10th to go through the registration process.  This is the time students will turn in all of the needed paperwork, pay for ASB and yearbooks, get their student ID card, their books, and find out their Small School.  If you can’t make it please contact your child’s counselor who is Shannon Brascia at sbrascia@lcusd.net.  Please be reminded that she is on summer break until early August.

If you would like to pay online click here to get all needed information and to access the webstore.  If you pay online please have your child bring a printed receipt.  If you would like to pay via check on the day of registration. Please make the check payable to LCHS 7/8.  ASB is $25, and yearbooks are $80. If students are paying for both, they may bring one check for $105.

7th graders will turn in their paperwork, get their IDs, and get their books on the second day of school, August 17th.

7th Grade WEB Orientation, August 13th from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm:

Our WEB orientation will be a chance for every incoming 7th grade student to meet their WEB leaders, participate in ice-breaking activities, make new friends, and tour the campus.  Our WEB leaders are trained 8th graders who participated in this event as new 7th graders last year and will now be mentoring your child. We hope that all students can attend. There is nothing your child needs to bring except some water and maybe a few snacks.

For both 8th grade registration (August 10th) and 7th grade registration (August 17th) students must bring all documents that were sent out by Jamie Lewsadder last week signed.  Also a check for ASB ($25) and yearbook ($80) may be turned in that day. Checks should be made payable to LCHS 7/8.  If students are paying for both they may bring one check for $105.

PE Clothes:

To order PE clothes, please follow the simple  instructions below:

  1. Go to https://www.bsnteamsports.com/index
  2. Enter Access Code:  LCPE6   (this code will be valid until August 2nd).  You must order you PE clothes before August 2nd to guarantee delivery before the start of school.
  3. Order any and all clothes/locks/bags needed.  Expect all items to arrive by the first week of school.
  4. All orders will be delivered to your home.

Lunch Switch/Minimum Days:

This is a reminder that next year 7/8 will have lunch after 4th period, not after 3rd.  This was a change that was made in the interest of the 7/8 students for numerous reasons, in conjunction with input from the High School leadership team and other stakeholders.

Also please be reminded that next year 7/8 will have 6 additional minimum days which releases students at 1:03.  These days will be the day before Thanksgiving and Spring Break, in addition to all of the SBAC testing days which fall in late April (tentatively April 25th, 26th, 29th, and 30th).

Cell Phone Policy Change:

After conducting thorough research, gathering input from many stakeholders, and engaging in reflective thinking, we have decided that LCHS 7/8 will no longer allow cell phones to be out during the school day.  Click here to view the new Cell Phones and Other Electronic Devices Policy. Please take time to read the FAQ and Other justification noted within the policy.

To view the entire email sent out a few weeks back with a complete explanation on this policy please click here.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please email me at jgold@lcusd.net.  I hope that your summer is going well and we are excited for you and your child to be part of the LCHS 7/8 family.

You can follow us on twitter @lacanada78 for updates and other information.  Enjoy the rest of the summer.
